Teun Zwets for HKLIVING

Teun Zwets doesn’t design politely — and that’s exactly why we wanted to work with him. His approach is unfiltered: loud colours, unapologetic gloss, rough materials that look like they’ve been dragged straight out of the workshop. There’s no ego in the work, but there is attitude.

Teun Zwets is not a designer bound by convention. His work moves between function and instinct, combining practical usability with a raw, playful approach to materials. From furniture to sculptural objects and collaborations, his perspective brings craftsmanship and spontaneity together. Within HKLIVING, that energy translates into a sharper, more distinctive design direction.

Meet the designer

Known for his intuitive, hands-on approach. After graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2020, he gained immediate recognition with his graduation project Teunland, awarded the Kazerne Design Award. Built from found and leftover materials, the project set the tone for his work — a balance between function, playful form and unconventional material use.

Working with Teun Zwets sharpens HKLIVING’s design identity. His work is instantly recognisable — expressive, functional and impossible to ignore. It speaks to a design-driven audience while remaining accessible to a wider, art-minded consumer. At the same time, his instinctive use of materials and focus on reuse bring a more experimental, forward-thinking layer to product development.

The result is a series of functional statement pieces with a strong identity, limited availability and a clear narrative.

For HKLIVING, Zwets translated his distinctive ‘splitted’ style into eight objects, including mirrors, lighting, a chair and a series of accessories. While his original work is often one-off, production in Indonesia allows the collection to reach a wider audience without losing its character. Every line, asymmetry and gesture retains its energy. The result is a series of functional statement pieces with a strong identity, limited availability and a clear narrative.

Together, we pushed furniture into new territory — where objects don’t blend in, but take the lead. These pieces behave more like characters than static forms. They challenge the idea that furniture should be neutral or predictable. With Teun, the question was never “Does this fit the interior?” but “Does this deserve a place in it?” Bold, unapologetic and a new take on what functional art can be.
